    • Hi Stuart,
      Yes, it’s been a minute!

Not sure if the motorhome brigade will be interested in our escapes with the caravan!

We’re working furiously to get it set-up and will take off in around 2-4 weeks on a UK shakedown trip and we’re chewing over whether to go to Italy or Spain over the coming winter period.

Looks like I will need to change the blog name, not sure what to call it but ‘Serendipitous Hodophiles’ will probably have folk reaching for dictionaries and will most likely produce a zero search-ranking with Google (come to think of it that would suit me!).

    • Thanks Paul,

We mulled over the things that we enjoyed most from that last Twernt trip and concluded that those longer stays in various places were the ones that we preferred.

We have had other motorhome and Airbnb-type trips since Twernt was sold – but little worth mentioning since covid-19 hit.

I eventually got off my covid-ass, sold the Hymer and bought this caravan the very next day.

It’s the way go for us!

  1. Hi Roy and Amanda Good to see you are off on your travels again,

Catherine is well and does two days a week at the Care Home as she enjoys looking after people who cannot look after themselves. We had a bit of a scare recently as following a visit to the doctor she was booked in for a quick CT and Xray which resulted in being completely clear of Cancer but await results from the respiratory department due to pain in her right lung and coughing up phlegm. We believe it’s Long Covid and so does the doctor so we await treatment.

We had a postponed trip to Tenerife end of June into July and really enjoyed it and I am off to Boppard with Pidcocks from the 17th to 23rd Sep. Catherine will not travel on the bike again after a near miss coming back from Zell in 2015 and this was between Newark and Lincoln! I said we could both go in the car but she declined saying you go on the bike after I enjoyed the Scotland trip this time last year.

The bike is currently in Pidcocks for a service and the credit card will be taking a hit when I collect it tomorrow the 26th. They gave me a loan bike a BMW F900R roadster for a few days and when I rode it back to Lincoln yesterday it was fun but would not like to be on it for more than an hour so at a time as no adjustable screen no hand guards and harder seat. On the plus side I did like the digital screen with the various layouts and it did have heated grips.

We wish you both well on your travels and are following your posts.

With Best Regards Love Brian and Catherine

    • Hey both!

Sorry to hear about Catherine’s ordeal and glad that she came through with an all-clear. Amanda had 2-3 scares during the first few years after her B/C op; I think it’s a natural reaction/fear to consult the medics with anything that hints at being a problem and Catherine should continue to refer back to the professionals – if only to gain more peaceful sleeps at night.

It’s been more than 18 years now for Amanda and it’s out of our thoughts 99.9% of the time – but that % was much lower in that first 5 years or so. We hope all goes well for you both.

I have had the same lung symptoms that you describe and know of 2 or 3 others that live in our small hamlet who have had this lung thing going on. I was diagnosed as having costochondritis and told it would disappear in about 6 weeks.

It started on 30th March and is still with me – 20+ weeks later.

I have not (knowingly) had covid-19 though (maybe the costo thing is a Russian ‘gift’ as opposed to the Trump/Chinese ‘gift’ of C-19).

Enjoy your ride across to Boppard, the Rhine might be sans-water by the time you get there! Just thinking about your trip has me dreaming of 2 wheels again instead of the 6 we now have.

I watched a YT video of a guy doing JOGLE in an EV the other day. He recorded a time of 15hrs 24mins; he was ‘caged’ the entire trip so could eat whilst driving albeit that the EV took longer than our RT’s to ‘fuel-up’.

When we two did JOGLE in 2010, we were both in our 60’s, and recorded 13 hrs 29 mins – the EV guy claimed the finish line was before the Lands End hotel building so I’m thinking we could knock 1 or 2 minutes from our time!

That was also my 3rd ‘Iron Butt’ of 1000 miles in less than 24 hours. No way I could do that today!

Hope you’re still flying your Floyd Flag – Roger Waters is active on YT, floating the roots of truth – as ever.

Hope things stay good for you both.

    • Hi Eric and Shazza,

It took me a while but then change comes slow in the country (!) – the Hymer had over 4,000 views on-line and sold to the first chap that viewed plus we had a list of others wanting it should the first chap not be able to complete – but that didn’t happen.

A trip up to near Louth the day after the Hymer shipped out and, voila, we’re ready to get on the move again.

It took us (me) a while to rise above the C-19 era and we’re now enjoying that time of setting the rig up for our first trip and also the trips beyond that.

Hope the Spanish heat isn’t proving too difficult to live with, it’s certainly had it’s moments here.

Maybe we’ll head out for places with lots of snow!
