Running £’s

The information on this page scopes the running costs of leading this nomadic lifestyle with emphasis on:

  1. The costs of running and maintaining Twernt
  2. The costs of site fees
  3. Costs associated with the nomadic lifestyle (club fees, camping equipment, maps, etc.)

Not in scope are the costs that remain similar to when leading a ‘bricks and mortar’ existence, e.g.

  1. Personal expenditure – clothing, meals out, etc.
  2. Weekly groceries
  3. ‘Other’ vehicle costs (cars, motorcycles, etc.)

    • Hi Allan & Jayne, we’ve had an interesting (!) start on this side of the channel, better save it for the blog though! I am putting out the mpg under ‘Running Costs’ each time we buy fuel, need to post 2 updates, hopefully tonight, first fill-up was 19.95mpg but the dash ‘computer’ is reading 22.6mpg and that’s carrying all of our worldly goods (well, almost!).
Best advice I was given was: if your fuel budget is, say, £60/week then that’s how far you drive for the week.
Then you can buy an RV running 5mpg, enjoy lots of space and cope with the mpg cost by taking 2 years to get to the sun!

    • Thanks Allan & Jayne,
Very limited on what I can do now, this 7″ tablet takes forever to do the smallest of things, spent 1.5 hours trying to add Arramanches to the Location map and failed miserably – almost bombed the entire map! – so I’ve given up until new equipment is with me!
Back to normal in a week or so – we hope!
      Cheers Roy & Amanda

  2. Great that you are having such a good time. The costings have been great info taking into account that we only have 4 mths to go before our trip starts. With any luck can bump into you on our travels next year. Note that you bumped into Shaz and Eric. On the point of food spending are you in a position to a costing of how much you have spent on everyday food purchases since May. PS much preferred your blog updates than that horrible Facebook site

    • Hello Peter,
I hope that the 4 months goes by quickly for you and very very slowly for us! We will either still be in Spain at that time or crawling back to the UK through France.
Met up with Eric & Shazza a few times and got on with them so well that we very much look forward to meeting up with them again – hopefully one or more times during this trip. They’re already like old friends to us! When I say old, it’s me that’s old – Amanda, Shazza and Eric are way young but they don’t hold my age against me!
We took the decision to not include food costs because they are similar to, or slightly less than, what you/we spend when in the UK. The oracle of all matters food related and goddess of all Lidl shopping informs me that our average weekly Lidl spend (food, dog catering and vino stock up) varies between €60 and €120 a week. I think it all depends on whether a thrift or an extravagant predisposition exists on shopping day! I always keep the dogs company in Twernt during supermarket visits and I then provide an assist with the unloading when Twernt’s ‘shopping spree’ peace is shattered by the arrival of bags full of ‘stuff’ that need to be stowed away.
My oh my! – on the blog front – Amanda prefers the wordpress blog – we now discover that we can get a book made up from the wordpress blog and this has become an object of desire for my ‘bacon lady’ (actually that should now be ‘BLT lady’ since the change to my Sunday morning menu!) – It is faster to post to Facebook – Facebook requires more ‘maintenance/attention’ on the day of update – I got behind with blog postings.
Lots of things to take into account but it does look as though ‘blog’ is returning and Facebook will have the ‘2nd tier’ pictures posted.
So, in anticipation of your impending trip……my advice is buy a scrapbook and a ‘photo’ printer and assign the job to someone who isn’t you!
Blogs coming soon on here though!
