We are Roy (65) & Amanda (54-almost), we sold our bricks and mortar property in May 2014, shortly after my retirement in March.

Yours truly, January 2014

We celebrate 33 years together this year (2014) and we have 4 offspring.

We have lived mostly in Derbyshire and Leicestershire but also had a 4 year spell in Cornwall and a short spell in the USA (Salt Lake City and Hackensack, NJ).

Amanda started out as a County Court Clerk followed by management roles in various businesses that we’ve owned – a filling station, a shop in Marazion, a coffee house/piano bar in Chester and, latterly, an ecommerce internet business.

I started in IT back in ’69 following a 4+ year spell training as an industrial chemist. I began legacy system (IBM) programming in 1974 and went on to work for computer manufacturers, software houses and many, many corporate users in over 20 years of IT contracting. I also started and ran  a software house in the 80’s developing software for the transport industry. From 2008-2014 I ran our ecommerce internet business and we will re-start this business in the near future (to get the pension ‘kick’ that we need!).

We are now fulltiming in our motorhome and have spent the summer of ’14 getting Twernt set up ready to escape from blighty for the winter; something we have wanted to do for many years.

We also want to explore more of the UK so it seemed pointless retaining a bricks and mortar property that we would, at best, spend only a few weeks in each year; we have rented out properties before and wanted to be free from the grief that goes with that territory – Just us, our 2 dogs, a motorhome and the open road for as long as the feeling lasts, that could be for just a few months, a few years or ad infinitum. We shall see.

This blog is primarily aimed at keeping our family and friends updated on our travels.

    • Hi John, I’ll be updating the running costs each week plus adding anything to Set-up costs that ‘belongs’ there (inverter, digital multimeter and a few other bits need adding). Also looking to add a Google Map of where we’re at (once I can figure it out!).

  1. Roy, regarding mozzies – Rid is the biz. I get mine from “The Safari Store” http://www.the safaristore.co.uk. It’s Aussie stuff and is about £8 for 100ml. Not cheap but I found it worked for me in The Gabon after numerous attempts at using all sorts of remedies previously, including Deet. The only time that I didn’t look as if I was a London plague survivor.
