A nod to Eric and Shazza

Monday 8th December 2014

This morning we set out early from Twernt as we were hoping to get a picture of a car ferry with the sun rising over the Med – we wanted to produce a quick blog post to wish ‘bon voyage’ to our friends, Eric and Shazza, as they take ‘Big Momma’ for an inaugural trip over to Morocco.

We’ve really ‘hit it off’ with Eric & Shazza and our friendship has grown each time we’ve met up – 3 separate times now, including Albufeira where we spent just over one week on the same site. Eric and I also exchange Skype messages frequently.

It quickly became like we’d known them for much longer than just these past weeks.

Kindred spirits, ‘blogging brothers’, similar sense of humour (I’m not going to reveal who knows the rudest jokes!) and Shazza has a take on the world that is very similar to Amanda’s.

Eric and I both have partners who are ‘Silent Majorities’ – they may not seem to say a lot but, believe me, when they do, you’d better hear it – it’s direct and it matters.

We have now spent 175 consecutive nights living in Twernt and for many months leading up to us becoming full-timers Eric also ‘went the extra yard’ when giving us first-class advice.

We may now have pretty much found our own ways but there are still times when you hear ‘Well, Eric and Shazza did it this way……’.

Maybe Amanda will make me a lemon drizzle cake ‘a la Twernt’ one of these days!

Those ‘Chilli Dogs’ aren’t Thetford friendly!

We ‘get on REALLY well’ with Eric and Shazza – so these pictures are for you guys and we both hope that you have hot days (down boy!), exciting adventures, hassle-free experiences and safe times in Morocco.

Bon voyage!

Seeking out a few pictures as a nod to Big Momma’s new adventure, here’s what we came up with:

the pics are best ‘double-clicked’ to full screen (I know this is a well clichéd term but some of these pictures ARE worth it!).

1. Mooning around

We didn’t set out to capture any lunar pictures but it had to be done as it was ….there!

Looking inland and slightly to the west of our camping, the moon is still ‘high in the sky’

A close-up of the moon 8th December 2014 – taken using the zoom on my Kodak Brownie camera (ha-ha) – Amanda’s favourite full-screen picture.

2. Sun, sun, sun – here it comes

Meanwhile, behind us and over the Mediterranean Sea the sun began to appear – we didn’t manage to capture a car ferry en-route to Tangier (as we had wanted) but we were fortunate to have a container ship in the right place at the right time…….

Meanwhile, another vessel comes into view – you can tell this is a drug runner by the number of ‘high’ birds around him!

Oh no! I've waited over 65 years for this and the bloody Med is melting the sun! "Amanda, can you phone 'Suns-to-Go' please, we need another one - will it fit in our bike trailer?"

'Suns to Go' have delivered and they've sent 2 suns - typical e-order cock-up, I'm not paying for 2 - I don't want them now and under DSR they'll have to give me a full refund, including postage.

  1. Now how on earth can I even attempt to answer those absolutely brilliant comments except to say that the feeling is mutual my friend. The one thing that is great about this lifestyle is that we are all individuals, we can listen and sometimes learn from others, but at the end of the day we find ‘our own’ way. You and Amanda are finding the way that suits you, there is no right or wrong way !! Continue to enjoy your new lifestyle, you know we will stay in touch, subject to Internet access of course !! and look forward to meeting up with you both whenever those opportunities arise. We are honoured that you consider us ‘friends’ even though you do have to admit that my jokes are by far the rudest !! Not necessarily the funniest though 😉

    • And I wasn’t going to ‘out’ the rudest joke teller! We thought we’d heard most jokes going around but you had plenty of new ones that had us ROTFL (as they say) – they were either really funny or it they were beer-assisted! Morocco is looking good.

    • Nothing to do with me really – I just point, hold the camera as steady as possible, half-click the shutter button for focus, wait a second or so and ‘Bob’s your Uncle’.
I suppose it helps having a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX200V camera – probably out of date now but I’m planning on replacing it in 30-40 years time!
