Countdown to our winter escape – 16 August 2014

Welcome to our new ‘blog on the landscape’.

Our previous blog is now consigned to being a ‘blot on the landscape’ as we have developed this blog to be more focussed on our fulltime motorhome adventures.

The countdown has begun and it’s now just over 4 weeks before we ‘set sail’ for France (really it’s bugger all to do with sailing as we’ll be using the tunnel).

‘Destination Algarve’ features in our thoughts but you never can tell; Helsinki has a great bistro-bar that I wouldn’t object to re-visiting – It’s cold up there plus it’s a long way to drive for an upmarket burger so the promise of Portugal looks like a safer bet – if the weathers crap down there I’ll drive to Madrid and give Ronaldo a slap – he’s the only Portugese person I know of – apart from some man/woman thing that was once on ‘Big Brother’ – does anyone watch that programme any more? Well past it’s sell-by methinks. Oh, just remembered, Eusebio, THE Portugese legend. Must look up his final resting place and visit to pay my respects. Top man.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to stay ‘focussed’ for very long!.

The countdown has begun – 29 days to go, here are some random pictures of the last week:

AJ (Amanda) with her sister, Andrea - we haven't seen Andrea in about 3 years. Andrea is battling C, the same thing that AJ battled 10 years ago. Op, chemo, tablets, you're now through the first 2 of those Andrea, chin up, you're going to WIN. Andrea lives in France - see you next month

so..we took him to the vets in Melbourne. Not much help from there though - AJ has had to research DEFRA, sand-flies, heart-worms and more. Our hounds already have passports, etc.

Son Ed and his partner, Nicole packing their home ready to move into their first house purchase. They will be in before we embark on our adventure so we may get to see a bath before we depart (the one in their rented cottage is rancid. thanks, but no thanks).

    • Thankyou Holly, ’twas changed on a whim, went too far with an idea and ended up here! Not sure what Nicole’s intentions were but she kept waving the bottle whilst shouting ‘Hello Vera’, at least that’s what it sounded like to me.

  1. Nice new blog guys and guess what, having done 101 chores since being unceremoniously wrenched from my bed by pooches Bingo and Pacha at 10 to 5 this morning, who l guess got bored with sleeping since 8pm last night, now have a full two hours free to read and enjoy it before setting off to the Birstall Social Club for a rare couple of pints/chasers with an old motorcycle mate from the 60’s. Hope to see you, no matter how briefly, before you set sail. Hard to think that 26 years ago the boot was on the other foot with us heading off into the sunset. Good luck. Safe travels. And lots of love from us. Jim, Marie, Bingo and Pacha. xxx

    • Hi Jim & Marie, don’t think there’s enough years left for us to get anywhere near the amount of years that you two did fulltiming! You must have done about 20 years before you settled back into mortar-land? We’ve set a date of 28th August to move south – 2 days after Ed/Nicole/Will move into their new house. It was easier to start the blog over than re-hash the old one. Maybe we could start a geriatrics bikers club when we get back, we could call it The Gold Wing OLDERS club of GB or The Geriatric Wing Owners Club of GB; that was all a long time ago (1980/81?). Think we’re pushed to get everything settled before we leave but will try and drop by if we can, would be good to see you both. Haven’t heard from Mel lately; saw Steve/Ann yesterday though. If we don’t get to see you, take care all and check out the new ‘Twernt on Tour Google Map’ that I’ve just added to the blog. Bit static right now though! ciao xxx

    • For some reason known only to WordPress your comments were in ‘spam’ – don’t usually check those but glad I just did – sorted it now. New (to me) camera improves pictures that are taken by a cack-handed user like me! Cheers. xx

    • Italy! Best food in Europe – we’ve followed your blog from when you switched; great educational stuff for us that are about to flit the UK-nest – especially your trip Oradour-sur-Glane.
Our paths may cross with Eric and Shazza somewhere very south – we owe a few beers to quite a few folk that helped us through our MoHo buying/set-up.
Hope we get to see you both somewhere down the line.
      Have a great trip.

  2. Re. your Broadway section, wonderful part of the world, you would have been there in 1987 with your new VW high roof camper van and 1984 twin axle Mardon Meridian caravan. Now, how did l know that. And l wonder where that caravan is now.
